Shadow

It was never your enemy

Shadow

I was told

That’s where the evil lurks

A place where demons hide

Waiting for you to lose footing

And fall into the void of nothingness

I was told

When the shadows creeps behind you

Don’t look back as it will swallow you

With pieces of yourself

It will destroy you

I was told

To seek for lights

As it will guide me through each of my steps

Never letting me fall

Nor trip

On my way up there

From then on I was on a quest

To find the lights

For it to shine on me

As I march forward on this journey called life

When I finally see it

I realized

The lights are the evil in disguise

Masked as your sweetest dreams

Filled with poison of temptations

Yet there I stand upon it

Basking in the warmth of lies

Inching closer bit by bit

It pulled me somewhere up high

Please don’t let me down

Where the lights shine the brightest

Please don’t let me shine

In the sky

Please don’t let me fly

Suddenly it feels too much

Now I’m afraid

It blinded me with desires

I can no longer see

The shadows behind me

Darker than ever

Trying to keep me grounded

Because it knows of what’s to come

The comfortable lights

Turned harsh

Burning holes into my soul

Until I cannot hold onto it anymore

With burned fingertips I fall

Like glass I broke

If I had known I was told wrongly

I would have taken a look behind me

The warnings of my darkened shadow

Hinting me to be careful

Maybe I will still be whole

Not with pieces of me missing
